Is my personal information safe?
It's always your choice to donate tissue samples and/or medical data, and if you decide to do so, there are rules and ethical guidelines in place to protect you. Your sample will be de-identified from you, meaning your name and personal info are removed or coded, so researchers don’t know who the sample(s) came [...]
Is there a cost to me?
There is no cost to patients to contribute tissue to research through pattern.org.
Can I just donate my medical records if I don’t have any upcoming procedures or stored tissue to donate?
Yes, we are now accepting “data” only donations which could include your medical records from one or more of your treating hospitals, genomic sequencing results and other details that doctors and labs collect during your care.
Can I donate tumor tissue if I’ve already had my surgery?
Yes, we are now accepting “stored” tissue for a number of rare cancer indications! If we aren’t currently accepting donations of your particular cancer, please let us know you’re interested in donating tissue and we’ll work to see if we can find a research project that can utilize your tissue sample(s). [...]
How long before surgery do I need to complete the consent?
If you decide you want to contribute a tissue sample(s) to a research project, we ask that you complete the informed consent at least a week before your scheduled procedure date if possible, so that we have time to coordinate with your medical provider.
What if I decide I don’t want to participate after my donation?
You can email info@pattern.org or contact the number on your informed consent to revoke your consent at any time. If you revoke your consent, your medical care will not change.
What if I decide I don’t want to participate prior to my donation?
Inform pattern.org and your medical provider of your decision immediately.
Will anything happen if I decide not to participate?
The donation of your tumor or other tissue will have no impact on your medical care.
