We are very sad to announce the passing our one of our founding Board Members, Marla Ellis Avery. Marla was instrumental in creation of A Cure In Sight and its many programs. Through her tireless effort to bring comfort to patients, Marla was beacon of hope in the ocular melanoma family. Our deepest condolences to her family and all who know her. MARLA ELLIS AVERY1971 – 2017 Obituary
Marla Ellis Avery, 46 of Denton, Texas passed away peacefully Friday, Aug 11th, 2017 in her home after a 9 year battle with Ocular Melanoma. Marla was born in Longview, Texas on Jan 29th, 1971. She grew up in Henderson, Texas and then moved to Houston and later to Dallas as a young adult. She worked in Houston & Dallas as a make-up artist. Marla lived the last 9 years in Denton where she was very involved in her church, Denton Bible. She served several years in the children’s ministry, and she was a BTCL graduate.
Marla is survived by her husband; Stephen Avery, daughter; Lucy Avery of the home. Father; Roger Ellis and wife Elia of San Antonio, Texas, her mother; Lynda Ellis of Henderson, Texas, her brother; Randy Ellis of San Antonio, Texas, her sister; Melanie Ellis Malone; of Gary, Texas, her in-laws Richard & Lisa Mercer of Denton, Texas, and father-in-law; Richard Avery of Spring, Texas. She will be missed by many brother-in-law, sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, nieces, nephews as well as many friends.
A celebration of life for Marla will be held at Denton Bible Church Chapel, 2300 E. University Drive, Denton, Texas 76209, at 11AM Saturday Aug 19th. Family visitation will be from 10am-11am the morning of. Flowers may be delivered to Denton Bible all day on Friday and up until 10:30 am on Saturday. In lieu of flowers donations may also be made at acureinsight.net/donate in memory of Marla.
