Prognostic significance of pigmentation and stem cell markers in Indian population of uveal melanoma’. This is an important preliminary findings to reveal the role of cancer stem cell markers and their correlation with pigmentation markers in adult intraocular cancer known as UVEAL MELANOMA.
Uveal melanoma (UM) is an intraocular malignancy in adults, originating from the atypical melanocytes in the uveal tract (the pigmented layer of eye). It is a rare type of eye cancer but, currently there is no effective treatment once it get metastasizes. Cutaneous melanoma and uveal melanoma are arises from melanocytes, however, both are biologically and genetically distinct tumors. The treatment approach is different for both the tumors. Our previous studies also identified the role of pigmentation in uveal melanoma. This study demonstrated a positive correlation between expression of PAX3 and stem cell markers, contributing to our understanding of the potential role of PAX3 with pigmentation and stem cell markers, which could influence the progression and metastasis of Uveal Melanoma.
