Ocular Melanoma - eye cancer treatment

Servier and IDEAYA Biosciences have joined forces to expand global access to darovasertib, a groundbreaking targeted therapy for ocular (uveal) melanoma, offering new hope for patients facing this rare and aggressive eye cancer.

Servier and IDEAYA Biosciences have announced a major global partnership to advance darovasertib, a promising therapy for uveal melanoma (UM)—a rare and aggressive eye cancer with limited treatment options. The collaboration grants Servier exclusive rights to develop and commercialize darovasertib outside the United States, while IDEAYA retains U.S. rights. This marks a significant step toward making darovasertib a potential first-in-class targeted therapy available to patients worldwide.

Under the terms of the agreement, IDEAYA will receive $210 million upfront, along with up to $320 million in milestone payments and double-digit royalties on global sales. Both companies will collaborate closely on development and share the associated costs.

Darovasertib is a selective protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor designed to treat both primary and metastatic uveal melanoma. The drug has already shown encouraging results in clinical trials, with U.S. FDA Breakthrough Therapy and Fast Track designations, as well as Orphan Drug status, recognizing its potential to address an urgent unmet medical need.

Ongoing and planned trials will evaluate darovasertib across multiple disease stages—including neoadjuvant, adjuvant, and metastatic settings. Current studies include a Phase 2/3 trial testing darovasertib in combination with crizotinib for metastatic UM, with results expected between late 2025 and early 2026, and a Phase 3 monotherapy trial for primary UM. A global Phase 3 adjuvant trial is also scheduled to begin in 2026.

Uveal melanoma originates in the uveal tract of the eye and is known for its high risk of metastasis to the liver. Standard treatments—such as radiation, localized tumor removal, or enucleation (removal of the eye)—often carry devastating consequences for vision and quality of life.

With Servier’s global oncology network and IDEAYA’s precision-medicine expertise, this partnership aims to accelerate access to darovasertib and potentially redefine the standard of care for patients with uveal melanoma worldwide—offering new hope to a community that has long faced few effective treatment options.
